Double Defeat For The Wanderers

It was a weekend of disappointment for the Wanderers sides last weekend as both teams succumbed to some mighty and brutal hitting from the opposition batting line-ups.

Saturday afternoon saw the 1st XI take on Dubai Gymkhana in its final fixture of DSL X and would ultimately finish 6th in the table following a seven wicket defeat.

Wanderers had posted a challenging 204-7 from their 25 overs thanks in the main to a century stand between all rounder Danny Pawson , 63 from 42 balls, and skipper Dave Adams, 44 from 37. The partnership combined good running between the wickets with some impressive six hitting as they propelled the score beyond the 200 mark.

The defense started well thanks to a fine opening spell from Kamran Shaheen who took two early wickets and conceding just 30 runs in his five overs. The Wanderers were on top but from that point on the day belonged to middle order man Shezed who smashed an unbeaten 104 from just 55 balls to blast his side to the win.

It was a similar story under the lights as the 2nd XI took on Red Bats. Batting first, Danny Pawson's men posted 170-7 with the captain scoring his second half century of the day with 71 from 53 balls. Avi Karia showed his talent with the bat with a run a ball 41 an dMohamed Izrath a brisk 21.

In reply, the Red Bats had rockets in their bats and stunned the luckless Wanderers attack with a blistering assault reaching their target in just the 13th over. Karia the man with the wicket for the boys in blue.

This weekend the Wanderers take their place in the Dubai Cricket 7s as part of a huge festival of sport.
